MRT Corporation president and chief executive officer Saw Phaik Hwa has resigned, less than a month after the MRT system suffered two of the worst breakdowns in its 24-year-history.
In a statement, the board of directors said it has accepted her offer of resignation. She will conclude her executive responsibilities with effect from Friday.
Ms Saw, 57, will remain with the group to help the relevant investigation teams and the Committee of Inquiry (COI) reviewing the causes of the disruptions on Dec 15 and 17, and help the transition to new executive leadership.
Board member Tan Ek Kia, 63, will assume interim executive responsibility for the management of SMRT, with a particular focus on rail operations, while the board conducts a search for a new CEO.
